About Ethiopia

The Country

Ethiopia (officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia) is the most populous landlocked country in the world. At 472,000 sq. mi. (the size of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico combined) the highland areas enjoy a temperate climate, with the lowlands being hot and dry.
The Children
Ethiopia has the second highest population on the continent of Africa at 84 million.
Ethiopia's orphan population is estimated to be around 4.3 million.
Approximately 1 in 6 Ethiopian children will die before they reach the age of five. Water born disease is the number one cause of infant death in Ethiopia. It is estimated that over 80% of Ethiopians lack a source of clean water.

My son was one of the lucky ones. Although he lost his birth family through a series of tragedies, they were amazingly loving, and it shows. I am privileged to live each day with this sweetie, and am amazed that God helped us to find each other.
Through the agency that I adopted Little Man from (Children's Home Society and Family Services  http://www.chsfs.org/) we will be able to make a homeland visit back to Ethiopia when he is a teenager so he can have a better idea of where he was born.
